Class structure
Our classes follow a routine which is both loved by the children and important for early childhood development. Each term is planned over a period similar to the school term (usually 10 weeks) with a term theme (i.e. Transport) and a weekly topic related to that theme (i.e.Car). At the beginning of each term the children are given their visualisation book and each week we provide the word and picture for you to paste in.
Each of our classses include:
Children with short attention spans, benefit from the group activites in this friendly environment. We commence mat time by ringing a bell and blowing lots of bubbles for the children to come and watch, then we sing our welcome song. Our teacher talks briefly about the neurological topic for that week and highlights some points to read in your parent handout. This is then followed by massage, small equipment (balls, scarves, bean bags etc), exercise and group dance. Mat time continues with our special treasure bag time.
Each week children bring in an item that relates to the term theme and it is placed in the treasure bag at the beginning of class. We then sing the treasure bag song and they watch with great excitement as their items are pulled out of the bag and the topic is discussed. This part of the class encourages language skills, social interaction, imagination, visualization and stimulates their memory and pre-reading skills. We find that mat time is most successful when parents and carers also join in the fun with their child! We then return to the large equipment for a second time.
Our large hall is filled with safe, colourful, equipment that had been specially designed for young children. The children practise their coordination skills on the circiut which is changed every 2 weeks. The skills they practise include climbing, balancing, sliding, tumbling, rocking, hanging and swinging on our unique swing which rotates 360 degrees on a horizontal plane! We have a variety of swing attachments so children can fly around on their tummies, lay on their backs or sit while swinging.
Younger children use the equipment as a valuable exploration time as they experiment with their bodies and learn about their own capabilities. Older children enjoy the challenge of following instructions from the teachers and practise new movement experiences at each peice of equipment. Parents/carers are responsible for the supervision of their child on the equipment but the staff are always ready to offer guidance, give encouragement and teach new skills. Once the final equipment time is over, we ring the bell to call the children to the mat area for music.

Our classes are concluded each week with playing percussion instruments, finger play, songs and parachute. Making music can enhance listening skills, numeracy, language and timing. Our colourful parachute helps to bring the class to a close in a fun and relaxing way as everyone comes together to wave/shake or spin the parachute around. The parachute aims to encourage group cooperation, listening skills and socialisation. Finally, we sing our Goodbye song, and the children take home their visialisation book with their new word and picture pasted in for that week. This book, if used at home enhances their understanding of the information presented during Treasure Bag time and also increases their vocabulary.
We look forward to lots of fun and learning with you and your child.
